D-Link DSL-321B modems are widely used ADSL modems and after I have seen half a dozen of them die just shortly after two years of 24x7 usage, I think the issue deserves an article...

In all units I opened the cause why the modem stopped working was a swollen electrolytic capacitor right next to the power jack (obsolescence *wuhaha*?!).

It´s the big brown one on the lower left...

The solution is obvious: Replace the capacitor with an equivalent one and you have a working modem again...at least for some months =-)
